When you click on another player and it shows a star between their HP and SP, what does that mean?

It means they are at least 10 levels higher than you. That also appears when you target a monster that is 10 levels higher than you.

You can try to party them or ask them what level they are if you wanna find out.

I always thought it somewhat impolite for a stranger to ask someones level.

I dont find it impolite....I love showing off. I go to CP and punch stuff or deeper them, and when people party me they get a "huge" surpise.

Just think of it this way. They think you're so pro they wanna know how good you are...Especially for an archer...its a compliment.
